Here are a few spells for protection that you may want to use at some point in your practice. These spells are of the Cabot tradition.
- 2-4 Cups of spring water
- 2 Tablespoons of sea salt
- 2 Tablespoons of myrrh
- 2 Tablespoons of frankincense
- 1 Tablespoon of iron powder (iron shavings)
- 1 Teaspoon of vervain
- Pinch of wolf hair from a live, shedding wolf
- Pinch of graveyard dirt from someone you revere for courage or bravery
Charge all the ingredients and place them in a pan or pot used for protection potion. Simmer them slowly, and using your Instant Alpha Trigger, make a clockwise motion over the mix, saying,
“I charge this potion to protect me (and anyone I designate) from all positive or negative forces that may come to do me harm. So shall it be!”
Let the potion cool, bottle it, and label it. Use it on your wrists, forehead, and behind your neck to invoke the powers of protection. It can also be used on objects, vehicles, and the windows and doors of your home or office.
- 1 dram of patchouli oil
- 1 dram of frankincense oil
- 1 dram of myrrh oil
- 1 teaspoon of mandrake root 3 teaspoons of sea salt
- Pinch of wolf hair (from a living, shedding wolf or a pinch of fur from your familiar)
A variation of the water-based protection potion, this rich Earth scent contains the power of the majickal mandrake. While most mandrake root sold in the United States is may apple, a wonderful plant, it is even better to obtain traditional mandrake or mandragora root. English mandrake, or white bryony, which was carved to resemble mandrake root and sold to the unsuspecting, is not a good substitute, as its majick is more about deception than protection or power.
- 2 cups of nettle leaf
- 2 tablespoons of frankincense
- 2 tablespoons of myrrh
- 1/2 teaspoon of benzoin powder
- 1 % teaspoon of storax resin
Powder all ingredients with a mortar and pestle. Keep in a tightly sealed jar. Sprinkle on charcoal and walk through your home with the burning incense, moving into closets and other small spaces to clear out any harm
Dragon Queen Protection Spell
- 1 tablespoon of dragon’s blood resin
- 1 tablespoon of nettle
- Several pieces of mandrake
- Oak leaves
- Hemlock cones
- 1 jet stone
Red fabric square or red majick bag
- Protection potion
To keep oneself and home safe from evil and harm, use this spell. On a waning Moon, in the night air, place the stone and herbs on the square of red fabric or in the red bag. Put a drop of protection potion on your wrists, forehead, and the back of your neck. Say these words out loud while envisioning a beautiful red dragon flying above you with her flames surrounding you:
“By the waning Moon and the power of the herbs,
Protection shall surround me and my home
The fire of the Dragon Queen will protect me.“
Put a drop of potion on the mix and place it in the bag. Carry this bag with you always for the Dragon Queen’s protection. You can triple the spell and make three bags, putting one in your car, one in your home, and one in your workplace.
Destroy Evil Incense
- 1 cup of black cohosh
- 1 cup of nettle leaves
- 2 tablespoons of copal
- 1 tablespoon of myrrh
Burn to completely remove any evil influences from your life or home.
Black Feather Salt
- 6 cups of sea salt
- 1 or more crow feathers cut into very small pieces
Mixed together, these form a majickal symbol commonly used as a call for justice. Place this salt in a bowl wherever you wish to keep harm away, or carry it with Black Feather Oil in a black majick bag and burn black feather incense.
- 1 hematite stone
- Black Feather Oil
- Black mojo bag
- Protection Herb Mixture – patchouli, nettle, sea salt, wolf hair
- Optional Additions – henbane, datura, mandrake, hemlock
- Black candle
- White candle
Light both the black and white candles. Mix the herbs and oils together and place them in the majick bag. Place your hands onto the majick bag and say aloud:
“By the power of the Morrigan
I neutralize and bind the unjust actions and deeds
of those who come to do harm and evil.
So it is done!“
Faery Protection Candle
- 1 black candle
- Green leaves and flower petals
Light the black candle for protection, drawing protection to you. Sprinkle the leaves and petals around the base of the candle and recite the following spell:
“May helpful Elves
And Faeries bright
Bless this candle
with majick light.
Bring me protection!“
When the candle is done, save the leaves and petals for further majick. You can also put them in a black bag and hang them in your house or scatter them in your yard.
Excalibur Protection Spell
- White candle
- Crow feather
- Sword or blade
Light the white candle to reflect the harm away. Place a crow feather at the base of the candle. Hold a sword (or other blade) over your head as you speak this spell:
Bring me Power
in this very hour,
Flame so bright
help me be safe
Cabot Witches use an Excalibur replica sword, but any sword will do. While we favor this design, no one really knows what Excalibur looked like.
You can tattoo a pentacle on your body for protection. It is also a statement: “I am a Witch. I am marked as one.”
Protection of the Broom
Witches place their besom, or broom bristles up behind the door to keep away unwanted visitors. Any broom will do; however, a besom charged in a circle for protection and anointed with protection oil or potion is best.
For Protection of the Home
- 4 iron horseshoes or 4 railroad spikes
For this, you must use a compass to determine magnetic north. Set this spell up in a place where it will not be disturbed. Once you’ve found magnetic north, place the old iron horseshoes or rail spikes around the edges o the house, either inside, or buried outside the home, in the cardinal directions, starting in the North and moving clockwise around. Again starting in the north and moving clockwise, sprinkle salt over the iron. When you reach the north point again, say:
“I protect this house and the people in it from any negative or positive energies or forces that may come to do us harm. So mote it be.“
- Wolf’s hair
- Sea salt
- An item from a Crone, such as a strand of hair or a mother image
- Black cloth, possibly from an old robe or cape
- Black string
Carry wolf hair, sea salt, and something given to you from a Crone, a woman over sixty-five years of age. In our culture, the elders are not only wise but also protectors. If you do not have access to wolf hair, you can substitute it with dog hair or cat hair from a live and shedding animal. Animals are the great protectors on this planet. They do this of their own free will with purity in their hearts, which is the most powerful form of protection. Wrap these items in the black cloth and wrap a string clockwise around it as you tie it, forming a charm bag for your protection spell. Carry the charm in your left pocket.
Triangle Spell to Learn Your Enemies
On a piece of yellow poster board, cut out an isosceles triangle with the measurements 33” by 13”. With a black marker, draw an equilateral triangle within it. When it is done, place it on the floor facing north. Sprinkle yellow flower petals over it. Leave it out so you will find out who your enemies are and also who is speaking against you. Place the yellow petals in a bowl or add them to an herb mixture to stop gossip or grant protection. Pick up the triangle and put it away until you need it again.
Rid of Enemies
- 1 lemon
- Iron nail
- 9 pins Dish
- White candle
- Protection potion or protection oil
Sit in a majick circle. Place the lemon in a dish. Light a white candle anointed with protection potion or protection oil. Put the nail into the lemon, and then stick all nine pins into the lemon and say:
All enemies of mine shall find attention to other things and turn to do good forever. So mote it be!
Release the circle. Snuff the candle. Bury the lemon in the ground and it is done.
Antique Key Protection Spell
Find four different antique keys. Light a white candle and take each key, one at a time, and hold it in your hands. Focus your majickal power into each key. Say out loud:
“This key shall keep away any and all harm to me and my home. All harm is locked away. So shall it be!“
Then hang the keys outside over your front door. If you wish, you can do the same at your back door. You may even add one more key and then wear it on a cord around your neck.
